Audiobookshelf is a self-hosted audiobook server for managing and playing your audiobooks.
- Fully open-source, including the android & iOS app (in beta)
- Stream all audiobook formats on the fly
- Multi-user support w/ custom permissions
- Auto-detects library updates, no need to re-scan
- Upload audiobooks w/ bulk upload drag and drop folders
- Fetch metadata and cover art from several sources
Before we start, please ensure you have Docker installed. This can be installed through the Synology Package Center.
Create the AudioBookShelf Docker Folders
We now need to create the Docker folder. Head into File Station and open the Docker folder. Select Create, choose Create folder and name it audiobookshelf. We now need to create two more folders inside the audiobookshelf folder. Name them config and metadata. (see demonstration)
Create the Scheduled Task
We will now head into Control Panel > Task Scheduler > Create > Scheduled Task and click User-defined script. (see demonstration)
Configure the Scheduled Task
In the window that appears, insert the following:
In the General tab, In the Task field, enter Audiobookshelf. From the User list, select root. Uncheck the Enabled option.
In the Schedule tab, Select Run on the following date (make sure It’s today’s date). Now select Do not repeat.
In the Task Settings tab, under Notification, You can choose to turn this on, otherwise skip this. Now copy-paste the following code into the Run command area. Now click OK.
docker run -d --name audiobookshelf \ -e PUID=1026 \ -e PGID=100 \ -p 13378:80 \ -v /volume1/data/media/audiobooks:/audiobooks \ -v /volume1/docker/audiobookshelf/config:/config \ -v /volume1/docker/audiobookshelf/metadata:/metadata \ advplyr/audiobookshelf
Important: Remember to update the PUID, PGID and Directory values to match your own.
Accept the warning
When the below warning appears, press OK.
Run the AudioBookShelf Scheduled Task
You will now see your list of tasks. Select Audiobookshelf, now press Run.
Confirm you want to run the AudioBookShelf Task
When asked to run, press Yes.
AudioBookShelf is now Installed
The installation process has now finished. Give it a few seconds to appear in your Docker list.
Open your browser and enter the link to your new container http://synologyip:13378.
Important: Default username is root with no password. I’d recommend that you change the default username and also add a password.
Socket Failed to Connect
If you are using reverse proxy to access this container and you run into this error. There is a simple fix for this, see below.
- Open Control Panel > Login Portal > Advanced > Reverse Proxy
- Select the proxy rule for which you want to enable Websockets and click on Edit
- Change to the Custom Header tab
- Click Create > WebSocket
- Click Save
